Today as I was taking my mother to her various errands, she saw a sign that said, "Lord Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace". The title really gave me pause to think. The first thing I thought of was a literal musical instrument. I thought about what an instrument has the capacity to sound like. It can either make a beautiful sound or it can be horrible and unnerving, depending on the person playing it.
In the Bible one of the Beatitudes tells us in Matthew 5:9 "God blesses those who work for peace, for they shall be called be the children of God." We want God's blessings, but they come with a requirement. We have to be makers and maintainers of peace. This comes through practicing peace and bringing peace into what could have been volatile situations.
We have a young man about the age of eleven that plays the drums beautifully in our church. You would never know of his young age by the way he plays. He is truly gifted, but he has also been well taught and has practiced! It is the same with peace. We must ponder it and practice it. We must let it garrison our minds at all times if we are to be successful in this area!
Remember, Jesus is the Prince of Peace! We are to model ourselves after our teacher. Let your peace not only effect your world, but the entire atmosphere around you! Be an instrument of harmony and peace! Have a blessed day, all day!
